ADHD & Novelty in Relationships

Novelty in relationships

Novelty can be a great tool in any romantic relationship, but especially in ADHD relationships. 😊 It can ease boredom, strengthen connection and encourage growth…

There are many ways to bring in novelty 👇

explore together

• Go on adventures: make a couples bucket list and go through it together.

• Discuss new topics. Don’t be scared to be curious and ask questions, such as: what do you think about this? How do you feel about this? What’s your opinion on…?

• Visit new places together. Explore new foods and sceneries. It can also be a great way to escape day to day routines and get to know each other in a new way. 😊

Learn together

• Have a joint goal and learn the skills and tools needed to achieve it. For example: playing tennis; making a perfect pizza dough; doing a cartwheel…

• Plan a trip and learn a new language so you can use it while there. It can also become a fun challenge: who can order coffee in a native language and be understood? 🤔

• Learn about healthy relationships (from books, videos, couples therapy) and discuss certain patterns that you engage in. Practice the tools that you’ve learnt.

deepen emotional intimacy

• Set a time to discuss your relationship, have an honest and open conversation. Some couples do this once a month, where they set time to discuss their joint goals, plan and share their feelings.

• Share your dreams, values and fears. We are constantly evolving and growing, share this new version of you with your partner and get to know the new version of them.

• Spend quality time together. What makes you feel connected? What do you like to do together?

Spice up the intimacy

• Have an honest conversation about likes and dislikes. Explore fantasies and desires (create a safe environment). Talk about what intimacy means to you (it’s not uncommon to need an emotional connection first in order to be able to connect in other ways). Be open, yet don’t forget your own boundaries. 🔥
